Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has additional indicated that it will rely quite closely on business to deliver on the main challenges faced by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and international competitiveness, as well as the necessity to overcome the disaster provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is essentially constructing on the potential of European business to design and produce the building blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t always assist the liberty and flexibility wanted for companies to develop and compete globally.
The European expertise industries, and particularly our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a protracted time considered the enhancement of their international competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of energy effectivity and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied increased opportunities and introduced new challenges, including debates on the appropriate regulatory stage (sharing of business data, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competition, require that public authorities and industry within the EU work increasingly extra intently to design and deploy strategies that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be the subject of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can bring together key coverage makers from the three EU coverage establishments in charge of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements loved, and challenges nonetheless faced, by these three key sectors of trade.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and indeed the entire world, becomes ever more advanced, the burden on industry solely will increase. It therefore falls to sector specific commerce organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and policy issues most related to their respective sectors. In our specific arena, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump related equipment – a huge and necessary subset of business, given the width and breadth of pump applications.
Against this backdrop, one of many primary concerns when figuring out the core themes for the joint conference was to maintain up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to focus on how, along with the importance for companies to handle technical aspects impacting their day by day enterprise operations, they think about the constructive role of business in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all of the classes will have a technical theme matching the most appropriate UN SDG, and with representation from the European Commission along with technical specialists from trade and/or analysis institutes, they’ll each be reflective of the current legislative terrain, because it relates to pumps and pumping methods within the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of materials and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama throughout Europe is changing into increasingly complex, and industry, in all its guises, needs to be aware and prepared for what’s coming. By partaking with those trade organisations that characterize your finest pursuits, you probably can keep abreast of all of the compliance developments as they affect your corporation and the areas during which you use.
